Number 14, February 2004
2003… what a year for Bros with the release of Nanette Workman's "Vanilla Blues Café" and the much-acclaimed soundtrack
of the Quebec movie "Gaz Bar Blues" which, by the way, has won this year's Jutra award (Quebec's version of the Oscars),
for Best Soundtrack! As for new signings, Bros is proud to introduce Pat the White as the next Blues phenom from this part
of the country.
On the distribution side, the recent acquisition of M10 (FYI, M10 has newly partnered up with Melodie and all subsequent releases
from these labels will be under the M10 label) and their eclectic catalogue of World, Electronica, French and Urban titles has
given Bros a major boost in sales throughout the past few months. As you can obviously imagine, 2004 will most likely be another
stellar year for the Bros team!

OUR ARTISTS...
Nanette Workman
Over 10,000 copies sold of Vanilla Blues Café in less than 8 months and a steady rise in the radio charts and Musimax for
her newest single "Rock Steady", Nanette Workman is keeping herself very busy! Her on-going shows, billed throughout the next few
weeks till March 7th at the Montreal Casino, have been presented to sold-out crowds and all seem to be unanimous in saying that
Nanette is surely the hardest-working and most energetic lady in the business! The show, which covers all her greatest hits over
the past three decades, will also be presented at the Hull Casino on May 7th and 8th, 2004. Nanette has also been nominated as
Best Blues Artist at this year's Canadian Independent Music Awards.
Pat the White
Winner of last year's Lys Blues for Best Performance on Stage, Pat the White is on the verge of becoming Quebec's next Blues king!
He's already performed in numerous festivals around the province as well as Mississippi and, with the help of Nanette Workman and
Guy Belanger among others, has just released his first album on the Bros label. "Pat the White" is already selling well
everywhere due to the critical acclaim the album has received from different media types.
Les Ours
Their hard work and efforts have finally been rewarded; Les Ours won this year's Felix (Quebec's Juno Awards) for Best Country
Album with their wonderfully produced "Chansons Consignées"; their first Felix ever!
Bob Walsh
No, you haven't heard wrong… Bob Walsh won this year's Felix for the Best Artist in a Language other than French!!
He is also back from a tour in the Gaspé region and is playing to crowds everywhere across the province.
For more information on his whereabouts, visit Bob's site at www.audio-occasion.qc.ca/pages/musique.html

Other than our previously noted artists, tours have already been confirmed for Jim Weider, ex-guitarist for The Band, and Jimmy Johnson, a veteran of Chicago Blues. Not yet confirmed are shows by Brazilian Blues Wonder Nuno Mindelis, African innovators Kora Jazz Trio, Guinée-Buissean Zé Manel, Saharan queen Malouma and World-beat connoisseurs Hadouk Trio.
DISTRIBUTION
The distribution sector has been flying with new and interesting artists from around the world! Be it with the signing of
Brazilian label Biscoito Fino (the great Maria Bethania and her new album "Brasileirinho" and Samba prince Paulinho da Viola)
and an excursion into Spanish territory with the eclectic Boa label (Galician group Berroguetto - winner of 2002's Grammy Award
for Best World Album, electro-pop band Waxbeat and Flamenco Canto singer Agujetas), Bros continues to be a leader in World Music
across the nation. Have you discovered our World acoustic "So Real" compilation yet? Or the awe-inspiring Kora Jazz Trio, which
has had airplay on CBC's After Hours, Roots N Wings and numerous shows on Radio-Canada as well as fantastic reviews in the
Globe and Mail, among many others!? How about Malouma's "Dunya", a Top 10 for many reviewers in 2003 including Patrick Darby
(Galaxie.ca) and Alain Brunet (La Presse and Radio Canada)??! If yes, keep a lookout for our other releases. If not… it's
about time you discover what all these fabulous artists are about… go out and ask for these albums by name at your local
music store!!
Have a great winter and an even better spring!!
